October Favorites - Client Edition

Here are a few of my favorite client looks from the month of October:

I took a class from one of my fave MUA's/bloggers - Rae Michele from Naturally Glam by Rae. Rae guided me through a full glam session of makeup application and I learned so much and I absolutely loved the results! I love learning new makeup techniques from other artists. The best thing about makeup artistry is that no two artists use the exact techniques from start to finish so there is always something to learn!

I also did makeup for a wedding party of seven. These two were my absolute favorites (bridesmaid and wedding guest):

Technology Tuesday

I am definitely not the most tech-savvy person in existence, however, I like to maintain relevance and I believe that technology makes life easier at times. I recently discovered an app that I felt was blogworthy enough to share with Jar Full of Glam readers. The app is called Apps Gone Free - it is a free app available to iphone, ipad, and Android users, basically available to most mobile devices with app stores/markets. Apps Gone Free features a list of approximately 8 apps per day, that are only free for that day - apps that normally range in price from $0.99 to $6.99 and upward. My favorite apps are the photo editing apps because I take a lot of pictures on my iphone. I also love productivity apps such as task managers and various note-taking apps - anything to help keep me organized. Through Apps Gone Free, I discovered an app called aremaC where I am able to create various photo effects. I have attached some of the photos that I edited through aremaC. If you are more technologically advanced the editing possibilities are limitless! That is not my area, so I stick to basic presets! I probably don't need half of the apps that I download but I love discovering new apps and I have definitely paid for my share of apps so it feels awesome to get new apps absolutely free!

Closet sale

I have been hauling like a boss lately lol. I literally have no room in my closet for my new clothes so I have been doing inventory and deciding what needs to go. I have given away tons of things and have decided to sell others. Most of the items are new, never worn and the tags are still attached. A few items have been worn once. I am selling mostly dresses and a few skirts. I will be adding new inventory as this is an ongoing project. I really don't want to part with these items because I have never worn them and they are still relevant in the fashion world but if you guys saw my little closet you would all say "girl let go and let God!" Haha! But I have everyone's size - sizes 12-26, and some items will fit a size 28. Everything stretches and the sizing is negotiable, as in even if you are larger than a size 12 these items, size 12 items will fit you, and I have specified the general range of sizing based on my experience and knowledge of sizing. Most items are from familiar brands like Asos, Torrid, and Simply Be. Happy shopping! If you have any questions, please refer to the contact section of the store page.

Fall in Love with Stripes

Fall is officially here! I love stripes and they were great for summer. The good news is that stripes are still relevant for fall. A few weekends ago I challenged myself to wear stripes all weekend long. I chose three different pencil skirts and styled them in different ways.

On Friday, I met a friend for lunch. He was the worst photographer ever so I did not get many good pictures lol! I wore a black peplum top, a gold plated belt, and a camel and black striped skirt.

Top: Asos
Belt: Asos
Skirt: Dorothy Perkins
Bag: Michael Kors
Shoes: Tory Burch

On Saturday, I went to a meeting at church. I would have preferred to wear heels with this particular outfit but the meeting was four hours long so I opted for my fave flats. I did not have anyone to take my pictures for me so I had to rely on mirror selfies. I decided to mix "floral" with stripes. The annoying quotations are on the word floral because the print on the top is actually two-dimensional sequins but it reads as floral so that is what we shall call it.

Top: Simply Be
Skirt: Vince Camuto
Bag: Michael Kors
Shoes: Tory Burch

On Sunday, I went to 8:00 church service. This was my favorite outfit for the weekend. My belt is a regular belt that I purchased at Torrid 7 years ago, yes seven! I believe in taking care of my possessions lol! I turned it backwards so the buckles are in the back. That is another way to reinvent items in your wardrobe, try turning things backwards, and don't forget that we have already discussed putting tops over our dresses. I am planning on discussing in greater detail, ways to stretch your wardrobe, so stay tuned fashionistas! I have also had the tie for about seven years. A male friend gave it to me because I was incorporating ties into my wardrobe and he no longer needed it. It was already tied and I have kept it that way over the years.

Blazer: Torrid
Top: Lane Bryant
Skirt: Vince Camuto
Heels: Jessica Simpson

I hope you fashionistas find different ways to incorporate stripes into your fall wardrobes. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them below and feel free to follow me on instagram @chaneldior1913.

Tune-In Tuesday - Tamar and Vince

I am not a television person, I spend more of my free time shopping online, reading blogs, watching YouTube, maintaining my social media networks, and coveting items on Pinterest. In other words, if a television show has my attention, I consider it blogworthy and I feel the need to share it with my readers. There is so much on television, that some shows are just not on our radars, or we do not even realize that a new season has begun for some of our favorite shows.

This week I am featuring Tamar and Vince. The reality show airs on WeTV on Thursday nights at 8PM CST. This is the show's second season (I recently caught up on the first season) and it chronicles Tamar's pregnancy, along with highlighting Tamar's heightened musical career. Camera crews follow Tamar and Vince as they make arrangements to become new parents and tour various cities to promote Tamar's recent album, titled Love and War. Unlike most reality shows, there is not a lot of drama and fights, and other foolishness that people love to entertain (side-eye at 'Love and Hip-Hop Atlanta'). Most people tune in to Tamar and Vince because we genuinely enjoy Tamar's personality. Either you love her or you don't, Tamar is not for everyone! I find myself quoting her on twitter as I catch up with on episodes of the show on weekends.

Tamar brings comedy as well as fashion. I love to see what she is wearing and I love to see her glammed up! Feel free to follow me on twitter and perhaps we can tune in together!

Same Script, Different Cast

The most common question that people ask me is "does this go with this" or what color shoes/accessories should I wear with this outfit. Everyone has a unique sense of style, so while most of us shop in ready-to-wear collections, we worry about having the same apparel items as others. In fashion, that matters not, execution counts the most, the way in which you accessorize and pull your look together. With this in mind, two weekends ago, I challenged myself to wear the same accessories all weekend long. I chose a pink Aldo clutch, a fuschia belt, a nude pair of classic Jessica Simpson pumps, and a handmade pair of giraffe print earrings. I paired these items with a different dress each day, for a different occasion (hence the post's title - same script, different cast).

On Friday, I met a friend from college at happy hour for drinks.
Dress: Macy's
Belt: Lane Bryant
Clutch: Aldo
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

On Saturday, I went to a fight party and bar-hopped the night away with my best friend Jasmine (pictured below).
Dress: Asos

On Sunday, I went to a lounge.
Dress: Asos

The challenge was fun and I really enjoyed it. The bottom line is that you can limit your accessories if necessary (i.e. when going on vacation or downsizing your fashion budget or living space) if you plan your outfits carefully, and you do not have to match your belt to your shoes (people still ask me if it is ok if your accessories do not match, and I actually prefer that mine do not match). Remember fashionistas, fashion is a matter of preference and opinion, not rules, so have fun and wear what you love!

Farewell Summer....

The official first day of fall is not until September 21, but sadly Americans mourn the end of summer when public school resumes, when football season begins, or the day after Labor Day, depending on your lifestyle. I fall into the category with the day after Labor Day mourners. Since childhood I have religiously followed the no white after Labor Day rule (there are exceptions of course depending on the shade of white and fabric content of course), and adulthood has also lead me to expand that rule to limit my brights/pastels after the pre-fall holiday. I dream in color and I view the world through rose-colored lenses, so I definitely wear bright colors year-round, however, I will definitely limit my neon choices in the fall. Autumn has replaced neon green with avocado, emerald, and army green; bright orange has turned to rust, and shocking pink is now a raspberry tone. If I can offer one piece of advice regarding the season in which you should invest a greater portion of your fashion budget, it is definitely fall fashion. The colors of fall have different names on the pantone color wheel each year, however, they generally remain in the same family. If I asked you to help me think of colors for a fall wedding, most of you would suggest rust, eggplant, and a shade of green without having any knowledge of current trends. To further emphasize my point, I bought rust and emerald last year and I will be wearing those items again this upcoming season, and I have had jewel tone pieces for the past six years that are always relevant for fall and winter. One never knows what summer/spring fashions may bring and those are "the shortest seasons", making those two seasons the best time to partake in trends, while saving the investment pieces for fall/winter.

Now that I've spent more time than necessary giving you a scientific theory of seasonal fashion, let's check out what I wore during the summer months of Summer 2013. I spent the summer hanging out at boat parties, visiting the local resort, attending birthday dinners, fraternizing in the VIP section of Houston's hottest lounges, attending barbecues and kick backs, attending functions as a member of a wedding party, and primarily going to court hearings for work, but let us continue to name multiple isolated events that make my summer look ultra glam in hindsight.....

May 2013 - On my way to turn up in VIP with my sorority sister (line sister) for her birthday. I decided to mix stripes, leopard, electric blue, and neon yellow, with gold accessories and it worked!

June 2013 - I took these pictures outside of one of my fave Mexican restaurants (Pappasitos), where we dined for my cousin's birthday dinner. I was in the mood to wear something new, so I decided to wear this dress that I ordered from a fellow blogger.
Dress - Curvy Chic Boutique
Heels - Nine West

This was one of my fave outfits from summer and can you fashionistas believe that I did not go anywhere in it? I wore it for my birthday, which was on a Thursday this year, the one day of personal leave that I was able to take from work for the entire year and I got glammed up and stayed indoors because I simply did not feel like celebrating. My lip color is RiRi Woo, from one of the most coveted MAC collections this year. I decided to wear all neon everything! The colors are probably not apparent from my iphonetography, however, I am wearing neon coral, yellow, and electric blue. Since I did not go anywhere, I admit that I was over-clad in accessories, this is the day when you apply the rule of 'taking one thing off before you leave the house' and I would have taken off the necklace. I own tons of necklaces but I rarely get to wear them because I love to belt at the waist and I find that you generally don't need both a belt and necklace.
Top - Forever 21
Skirt - Asos
Belt - Asos
Shoes - Nine West
Handbag - Michael Kors
Earrings - Legacy the Designer
Necklace - TJ Maxx
Bracelet - Avenue

Looking forward to fall with you fashionistas! Feel free to leave questions/comments below.
